Kapa Haka Vocal Training
Specialist vocal training to protect and strengthen the voices of your rōpū.
A practical, in-person wānanga for high school kapa haka rōpū, tutors, and kaiako, focused on building healthy, powerful, sustainable voice use for kapa haka.
Kapa haka groups already put in a huge amount of work to build power, unity, and performance strength. This wānanga is designed to support that mahi by adding specialist knowledge of how the voice works, how to care for it, and how to build healthy, sustainable vocal power within a kapa haka setting.
Kapa haka places a significant demand on the voice. Long rehearsals, repeated haka, high-energy items, tight harmonies, and the pressure of competition can all take their toll when performers have not been taught how to use their voice efficiently and sustainably.
A hoarse voice cannot fully support the rōpū. A fatigued voice cannot maintain power and presence. A strained voice struggles to carry the story, the emotion, and the kaupapa.
This wānanga helps students understand their instrument, use it more efficiently, and care for it well so they can perform with greater strength, stamina, and confidence throughout the competition season.
